Imagine life if fear didn’t exist. What would life look like? How would your decisions change? I have been asking myself these questions to understand where fear has subconsciously blocked me from taking opportunities, risks and trying new things in my life. This reflection required me to be vulnerable and forgive myself. Self shame, and negative self talk does not disrupt fear. It gives it more space for fear to roam freely in your mind. We want to overcome fear.
It is a universal human experience to feel the panic of fear. We challenge fear through tapping into courage; ignoring the limiting box set by society and ourselves. In doing this we engage our power. Launching this blog is my act of challenging my fear. In moments when fear begins to bubble up: I engage in positive self-talk or affirmations. Other practices that help me are journaling, praying and spending time with the people in my life who remind me not to give in to fear.
Tips To Overcome Fear
Affirmations
When trying to overcome fear, it is important to ground yourself in your power to counteract the feelings of I cannot and thoughts like what if. I recommend affirming, “I have all the fundamental tools and knowledge to accomplish __________”. This simple practice can be a transformative step in your journey to conquer fear and embrace a life of courage and empowerment. It does not take long to write down a few affirmations. If you are new to affirmations I encourage you to click the link to My Free Affirmations Guide on Canva. After practicing affirmations, write three facts to disprove the fear.
Meditation
Set time aside to practice visual meditations. I like to meditate in the morning. A guided or unguided session that focuses on envisioning what it feels like to defeat fear will help empower you. Most importantly, it will quiet the anxiety you may be experiencing. Insight timer is an app that has a lot of free options. (This is not a paid promotion)https://insighttimer.com/
Physical Exercise
I know it sounds annoying, but exercise! Even if it is only for 30 minutes. Try to commit to a couple times a week. You can lift weights, walk or jog. My current favorites are yoga and dancing. When exercising the body produces endorphins, a feel good neurotransmitter. Physical movement helps to decrease anxiety and depression.
Have a Plan
Create a clear and concise plan to reach your goal. Make your plan a step by step plan of actions with measurable results. When people map out what needs to be done it provides a feeling of certainty
Practice Challenging Your Fear
A fast start means a quick end. When we get invigorated to reach our goals and change; we try to tackle everything at once. If this is you stop! I get carried away all the time and have to remind myself to implement only a couple of things at a time and to stay consistent.
